Unmaking the Modern: The Work of Stanley Anderson (1884 – 1966)
Gallery 1 - 2
1st February to 11th March 2016
A new exhibition of the works by painter-printmaker Stanley Anderson RA (1884 – 1966), a key exponent of the revival of line engraving in Britain.
Drawing on works almost exclusively from private collections, the exhibition is curated by Dr Harry Heuser from the School of Art.
“This exhibition examines the work and world view of the painter-printmaker Stanley Anderson (1884-1966). Born in Bristol and trained as a professional engraver, Anderson was awarded a scholarship to study printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London. During the 1920s, he emerged as a key exponent of the revival of line engraving in Britain. He taught etching at the University of London’s Goldsmith’s College and, by 1941, was a full member of the Royal Academy of Arts.”
